A mobile game developer says they're hiding $2,000 cash in Northport's Kentuck Park this Sunday for a scavenger hunt where participants can keep the cash they find.

The promotional event is sponsored by Playtika, the Israeli mobile game developer behind Slotomania, a social media slot machine simulator.

As part of a marketing trip through the deep south, Slotomania is stopping in Miami, Jacksonville, Northport and Baton Rouge to promote the game.

A spokeswoman for Playtika said the event's organizers will hide $2,000 cash in Northport for participants of the scavenger hunt to find.

They said to keep an eye on the event's webpage and the Hidden Cash Twitter account for clues about where the money will be hidden.

Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa is not affiliated with the event in any way, so we cannot guarantee the veracity of the the company's claims, but Slotomania hosted a Hidden Cash promotion in Fresno, California in October and local media outlets reported that they did indeed hide $2,000 cash there. One catch, though -- only people who registered through the Slotomania app were given clues on where to find the money.

According to the Fresno Bee, three people discovered four envelopes stuffed with $500 each.

Officials with the city of Northport and with the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority said Tuesday that they were not aware of Slotomania's plans in Kentuck Park, so take the whole announcement with a grain of salt, but if the event is legit and plays out the way it did in Fresno a few months ago, there may well be piles of cash up for grabs Sunday afternoon.

A list of rules provided by Playtika said the event will kick off at Kentuck at noon this Sunday, April 14th, and conclude when either when all four prize envelopes are discovered or at 11 p.m. Central, whichever comes first.

Slotomania will stop in Miami and Jacksonville Florida before they're expected in the Tuscaloosa area this weekend. We'll keep an eye on the events there and let you know if there are any reports of funny business.
