Carrie Underwood’s ‘Dirty Laundry’ Electrifies at 2016 CMA Awards
Carrie Underwood took the stage at the 2016 CMA Awards on Wednesday evening (Nov. 2) for an electrifying performance of her latest single "Dirty Laundry" and showcased why she is nominated for four awards at the 50th Annual Awards show.
Appropriately wearing a dress sewn in the shape of a man's white cotton dress shirt complete with a black tie, black belt and black suspenders, she appeared standing on a scaffolding high atop the Bridgestone Arena audience as the wind blew in her hair. The backdrop appeared to be an apartment building where Underwood's outfit helped to act out the lines in the song.
"That lipstick on your collar, well, it ain't my shade of pink / And I can tell by the smell of that perfume, it's like forty dollars too cheap / And there's a little wine stain on the pocket of your white cotton thread / Well, you drink beer and whiskey, boy, and you know I don't drink red," she sang on the first verse while walking down to the stage.
Fittingly, Underwood was backed by an all-girl band with bright pink lipstick on. Country trio Runaway June provided backing vocals throughout the performance while gritty electric guitar parts played by Lindsay Ell transformed the singer's country song to more of a rock feel and showcased her energy and ability as an entertainer. As the song ended with the stage engulfed in sparks it was evident why Underwood is nominated as Entertainer of the Year.
