Angaleena Presley Wrote With Her Pistol Annies Bandmates for ‘Wrangled’
Angaleena Presley is readying her sophomore album for release in April, and Pistol Annies fans are in for a treat: Presley did some writing with her former bandmates Miranda Lambert and Ashley Monroe for the project.
Presley got the Pistol Annies back together to pen her new record Wrangled's first track, "Dreams Don't Come True." The song is one of 12 on Presley's forthcoming disc; all 12 were penned by Presley, along with a lofty list of co-writers that includes Chris Stapleton, Wanda Jackson and Guy Clark. The latter helped Presley write "Cheer Up Little Darling," Clark's final track completed before his death in May of 2016; musician Shawn Camp plays Clark's No. 10 guitar, which was used to write "Cheer Up Little Darling," as well as the late singer's mandola, on the track.
"Covered in elbow grease and sacrifice, I set out to shed the skin of my 'dream' Nashville by painting a musical picture of loss, surrender, resurrection, redemption and connection with real people who make and support honest music," Presley says of Wrangled in a statement (quote via Rolling Stone Country). The record, co-produced by Presley and Oran Thornton, is set for release on Mining Light / Thirty Tigers on April 21.
The Pistol Annies haven’t released new music together since 2013, but Lambert, Monroe and Presley have all denied the rumors of tension among them; in fact, a reunion is “definitely brewing,” Monroe said in 2015. The three have joined each other onstage a number of times since.
