It's National Be Someone Day, and I wanted to take this opportunity to speak to all the girls out there.

Hey Lady,

When you look at me, I hope you see someone you admire. I am a DJ, and I am also the Director of Content (aka The Big Boss) of all eight of our Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa radio stations. I love what I do, and I am here to tell you that if you want to live your dream like me, YOU CAN DO IT.

Never let anyone tell you that you can't succeed in a male-dominated industry. Never let anyone discourage you from creating a career in which you can take pride.

I have been in the radio industry since my high school days, and I have worked with so many men who felt intimidated by my talent or technical aptitude. I've been in meetings where men talked over me instead of listening to my ideas. I've had mean, terrible men try to discredit my success by spreading disgusting rumors about me or filling my DMs with vitriol.

I've dealt with some of THE WORST dudes, but you know what? I NEVER let them make me feel I was, am or could be inferior.

Whenever f feel discouraged, I remember a lyric from one of my favorite Neko Case songs: "Don't let them tell you you're nothing/ You'll change the world, pretty girl."

How true is that?

Working as a woman in almost any industry can be frustrating, but I am here to tell you: if you work hard and stay focused, you'll get there. You'll find people who believe in you and work to be your champion. Our senior leadership at Townsquare Media believed in me enough to name me Director of Content back in 2018, and they have provided me with support and guidance every day since then.

I can't promise you that everything will be easy, but I can tell you that anything is possible if you work hard enough and believe in yourself.

You've got this.

Love,
Meg
