Alabama, This Could Happen to You When You Don’t Expect It
Between pets and other wild creatures delivery drivers see each and every day, animals can make the life of those delivering our packages very difficult.
There also comes an element of danger with delivering packages, as one Amazon driver in Florida found out this past Monday. The driver was delivering a package to a home in Palm City, Florida when she was bitten by a snake.
When the driver bent down to deliver the package, the snake, later identified as an Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake, struck the driver behind her knee. The driver called for help from her cellphone. Apparently, the snake was next to the door, unseen by the driver.
Help was dispatched immediately to the driver’s location. Authorities used the driver’s coordinates from her phone’s GPS to locate her quickly. The driver was transported to a hospital and was listed in “very serious condition.”
According to Nationalzoo.si.edu, eastern diamondbacks can be a length from three feet up to six feet. When the eastern Diamondback feels threatened, it will “rattle” its tail as a last warning to whatever it is about to strike. The diamondback’s usual diet is warm-blooded animals such as rabbits and squirrels and the animal can live up to 20 years.
