What would you do if you won the Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot? Almost everyone I know is currently planning a quick trip to one of our surrounding states to purchase a lottery ticket.

Why?

The Powerball jackpot $640 MILLION dollars and the Mega Millions jackpot is $750 MILLION dollars. Insane. That's, like, Nick Saban money.

I would be the most boring lottery winner of all time. I'd buy a little midcentury modern house in Glendale Gardens or the Downs, buy myself an Audi, and put all the rest of the cash in trust funds so that my daughter and nieces and nephews can attend college anywhere they'd like. And I'd go to Mykonos.

But here's the thing: I can't even daydream about winning the lottery without getting pissed off.

Why?

If you want to purchase a lottery ticket, you have to drive to Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, or Florida. You can't purchase one in Alabama--so countless Alabamians are driving to OTHER states to spend their money on tickets.

That means all these other states use OUR money to pave their roads and send their kids to college. Can someone please explain to me how this benefits us?

If you're morally opposed to gambling, that's your call. No one is making you buy a lottery ticket--but come on. You have to see that Alabama's refusal to have a lottery is harming our state.

I often stress about how I'll be able to pay for my daughter's education. I wish Alabama had a lottery so I'd have some sort of safety net. I was able to pay for most of my education thanks to the Kentucky lottery, so COME ON, Y'ALL.

It's time Alabama had a lottery.
