Looking for a way to support the arts in Tuscaloosa while also helping area children? The Alabama Blues Project will soon run its summer camp. However, the organization needs a little help.

As with most nonprofit groups, funding isn't readily available for all children who want to take part. However, the skills taught and developed through the Alabama Blues Project not only help children to learn a new craft, but they can use their talents to receive scholarships for college and maybe even earn a living.

From its Facebook Events page:

Summer Blues Camp focuses on teaching students to see the Blues in the context of Alabama folk art culture. Throughout the week, students have classes in Blues history, interdisciplinary sessions with local artists, writers, and dancers, and in-depth instruction on guitar, drums, or vocals. The camp ends with a free final performance for families and the general public. Scholarships are available.

Donations to the Alabama Blues are tax deductible, but if you'd like to receive something tangible for your gift, DVDs from the Evening of Arts and Blues are available for purchase.
