Billy’s Sports Grill is hosting the ‘Tips for Tuscaloosa’ songwriter’s concert tonight to benefit The Rise School and will feature a live set from Cary Laine.

This monthly event features local and Nashville based singer/songwriters in what is known as a “round”. Singing their songs, telling stories and musically accompanying each other.

New to the round this month is Alabama native and former member of Team Adam on NBC's 'The Voice,' Cary Laine. Since her national introduction on 'The Voice' (and turning all four chairs) in 2014, Cary has been touring the country and writing new material for her first ever full length album, Miss Alabama. The record is expected to drop later this year.

Other artists featured this month will include Hope Cassity, Victoria Camp,  JP Miller, and more as well as a showcase highlight from the Mississippi Songwriter Fest including Megan Mcmillan, Double Dee and Derek Norsworthy!

This month's "tips" will go the University of Alabama Rise School whose mission is to:

  • Provide exemplary services based on recommended practices to young children with diverse abilities and their families.
  • Interfacing with the community through outreach activities.
  • Offer instructional opportunities through collaboration with various academic units within The University of Alabama system and with other colleges and universities.
  • Engage in research that positively influences practice in the field of early childhood education at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Disseminate information and providing technical assistance to other community-based agencies; and effecting policy and systems change at the local, state, and national levels.

If you’re a songwriter and interested in playing tonight, there will be an open mic portion, so you’ll need to arrive by 5:30pm to sign up.

There is a suggested $20 cover at the door, but that is not required by any means.

Show starts at 6pm.
