All of the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season doesn't leave much time to think  about anything other than what to buy for Aunt Glenda and little Jimmy Todd. Sadly, not everyone is in the giving spirit and feel more inclined to 'take' as evidenced by the recent crimes committed in our community.

Being married to a police officer, I'm privy to unusual safety tips from my husband that I honestly would never think of.  Some are obvious, but a few never even crossed my mind.

-Close blinds when you leave
-Unplug your Christmas tree before you leave. Nothing is more inviting to a thief than twinkling lights indicating loots inside
-Don’t place your tree where it can be visible from the street
-Leave lights on inside the home while your gone
-Leave a note on the door instructing visitors not to ring the door bell because someone is a day sleeper. Most criminals won’t enter an occupied home
-Work with neighbors to form a watch and call law enforcement anytime a suspicious         car is in the area
-Keep garage doors closed
-Don’t post coming and goings on Facebook
-Keep shopping bags in trunk
-Have your keys in your hand before you exit the building
-Scan the parking lot while walking to your car. No phones, no digging in purses. An alert individual does not make for a good target
-If someone attempts to grab your purse, drop it and run in the opposite direction
-If someone tries to grab you, DO NOT let them take you from the area

I'm sure there are plenty more that need to be added to the list so feel free to leave yours below.
