Daylight Saving Time starts next Sunday. We "Spring" forward at 2am March 8th, one hour ahead of standard time. That means an extra hour of daylight.

Here are 5 good things about daylight saving time:

  • Folks will have an extra hour in the evenings to spend outside -actually doing something like walking, hiking or just throwing the baseball with their kid.
  • You will actually save on your energy bill! U.S. electricity use decreases by 0.5 percent per day
  • That extra hour has been proven to reduce crime!
  • You'll get to see the Sunrise!

A bit of history on daylight saving time:

Some say that Benjamin Franklin was the first person to come up with the idea. They say Ole Ben realized he was losing daylight during certain parts of the year when he woke up at his normal time. Mr. Franklin thought people could be more productive if they woke up earlier.

Germany was the first country to make Daylight Saving Time a law. That happened during World War I. The United States passed a law standardizing the daylight saving time start and end dates in 1918.

Daylight Saving Time will end on November 1st 2015 at 2am.
