Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Carrie Underwood Featured in Upcoming Foo Fighters Doc

The Foo Fighters already had a close country connection, as lead singer Dave Grohl worked with the Zac Brown Band on their latest album, ’The Grohl Sessions, Vol. 1,’ but now the entire band is embracing the Nashville music scene.

The group is starring in an HBO documentary series leading up to the release of their new album, ‘Sonic Highways,’ which includes a stop in Music City.

“I really believe the environment in which you write or record an album influences the musical result,” Grohl explains in the trailer, which you can watch above.

The documentary features appearances by Carrie Underwood, Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson, who were all supportive of the Foo Fighters’ endeavor.

“I know that my music has been influenced by all these different cultures,” Nelson notes.

Parton explains in the series the power that Nashville has on so many artists.

“To get to Nashville and be on the Grand Ole Opry, that was my first dream,” she recalls.

She also reached out to her more than three million Twitter followers, encouraging them to watch the premiere in October.

The band visited a total of eight cities, including Los Angeles, Seattle and Chicago, looking for inspiration for ‘Sonic Highways.’

“This isn’t just the making of our most ambitious album. This is a love letter to the history of American music,” Grohl says. “It’s the chronicling of a journey to unravel our musical identity.”

Other artists who will appear in the series include LL Cool J, Bonnie Raitt, Slash, Pharrell Williams, Joan Jett, Cheap Trick‘s Rick Nielsen, Kiss‘ Paul Stanley, Joe Walsh, the Black Keys‘ Dan Auerbach, ZZ Top‘s Billy F. Gibbons, Macklemore and several more.

The ‘Sonic Highways’ series will debut on HBO on Friday, Oct. 17 at 11PM ET.  ‘Sonic Highways: The Album‘ will be released on Nov. 10 worldwide. Pre-order a copy here.
