The answer to what one experiences while being in coma is a question that's often been asked, pondered, and imagined and one 18-year old teenager is sharing her experience in vivid detail.

Claire Wineland has cystic fibrosis and five years ago she developed a serious infection that required doctors to put her into a medically induced coma for two weeks. Wineland has developed The Clarity Project in an effort to share with others what she saw, felt and remembered during the two weeks she was medically asleep.

'When you’re in a coma you’re still here, you’re aware of everything around you, but it goes through this weird filter thing in your brain, it goes through the drugs,' she shares. 'It turns into something else when it hits your consciousness.’

After doctors packed her body in ice in an effort to bring down her fever, she describes going to Alaska and seeing 'pine trees and cones' while staring at 'the most beautiful scenery'. She said she even saw a little deer.

She remembers hearing the voices of family members which affected her mood. Wineland said when her parents were in the room she recalls being comforted by beautiful visions of landscapes. She also said unfamiliar voices in her room made her feel lost and unsure.

Claire said the entire experience made her realize how much she loves Alaska and how easily our minds can be manipulated.
