DCH’s January 5th, 2022 COVID update featured new numbers for COVID hospitalizations and includes a breakdown of vaccinated as well as unvaccinated patients. The latest update announced a total of 56 inpatient COVID-19 individuals at DCH. Out of those 56, 36 were unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated.

20 of those individuals were fully vaccinated and everyone in ICU with COVID falls under the unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated category.

The numbers are slightly higher than the day before with 51 total COVID-19 inpatients. 34 were unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated, 17 of those individuals were fully vaccinated and everyone in ICU with COVID falls under the unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated category.

According to the DCH COVID-19 updates, it’s been three months since the numbers have been this high. The inpatient COVID-19 numbers saw a big surge after the New Year holiday.

DCH recently requested help from the community when it comes to COVID-19. Due to the surge in numbers, DCH says, “ Many people with COVID-19 symptoms have come to the emergency room to be tested and potentially receive care. This has caused the emergency rooms at our hospitals to be extremely busy. These conditions have led to long wait times.”

A statement was released from DCH earlier this week urging those with non-emergency symptoms for COVID-19 to not come to the hospital's emergency room for treatment.

Anyone experiencing mild or non-life-threatening COVID symptoms such as a sore throat or stuffy nose is encouraged to either stay home or contact their primary care provider.
