No family ever pays St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for anything. They take care of treatment costs, housing, food, gas, transportation and entertainment.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital opened on February 4, 1962 and was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas. Its mission is to find cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.

On average, 7,800 active patients visit the hospital each year, most of whom are treated on an outpatient basis. St. Jude has 78 inpatient beds and treats upwards of 260 patients each day.

Here's the most amazing stat: The daily operating cost for St. Jude is $1.8 million! The cool thing about that is that price tag is primarily covered by public contributions. People like you and I.

I'm running the St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon on Saturday for the third time. Highs on Saturday are expected to reach on 35 degrees in Memphis. That means it probably won't get out of the 20s the entire time we are running! Tracy Lynn will be doing the smaller run that morning too!

We'll fight fear, cramps and bone-chilling cold but that's nothing compared to what the children inside St. Jude are going through.

95.3 The Bear will be at Chick-fil-A on McFarland Blvd. in Northport on Wednesday from 7am-9am collecting money for mine and Tracy's run for St. Jude. We'll then move over to Chick-fil-A in Midtown Village from 11:30am-1pm.

We'll be standing outside with buckets asking for any donations. All you have to do is drive up, if you want, and drop your money into a bucket.

Here's a link if you'd like to donate online. Your gift is tax deductible and greatly appreciated!
