We especially enjoy celebrations here in Tuscaloosa, whether it be the holidays or the fact that Alabama's the 2023 SEC West Champions. Now, being an alumnus of the University of Alabama, I know our reputation for being a 'party school.'

It is also no secret that we have quite a few bars and restaurants that serve just about any adult beverage one could ask for, from crafted cocktails such as old fashions, Moscow mules and the ever-popular margarita to several local brews on tap.

Most people would assume Tuscaloosa or another college town would be the drunkest city in the state. However, according to 24/7 Wall Street, it's none of those.

So, Which Alabama City is considered to be the drunkest city?

24/7 Wall Street broke down the percentage of individuals over 18 who reported that they binged drank or drank very heavily in each state’s metropolitan areas, then highlighted the city or metropolitan area with the highest rate.

The Alabama city metro that was ranked by 24/7 as the drunkest city was the Daphne-Fairhope-Foley area. This area has a population of 246,435 out of the population and around 19% of adults drink excessively. The scary part of this is that in this area, 32% of automotive driving deaths alcohol are involved.

So, Are We Saying People Shouldn’t Celebrate?

Celebrations are great and a part of who we are as a society. Go out and enjoy, just do it responsibly no matter if you are in the Daphne-Fairhope-Foley area or anywhere else. Take a Lyft or Uber back to your home, don’t risk your life or the lives of those on the road.
