Strong Storms are approaching the Alabama state line and could impact Pickens County as early as 6pm tonight.  The Winfield NOAA Weather Radio transmitter is off-air tonight and weather radios will not work in this area tonight.

Tonight’s storms are expected to bring a greater threat to our listening area.  The National Weather Service in Birmingham‘s current forecast has storms impacting West Alabama between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. tomorrow. The northwest portion of our listening area is at a greater risk for tornadoes; the NWS has portions of Fayette, Lamar, and Marion Counties under a “Significant” risk area–these places could see strong tornadoes. Tornadoes, damaging winds of 70 MPH and quarter size hail are possible throughout the 95.3 The Bear listening area.

The latest Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Storm Prediction Center is below; note the increased risk for severe weather–including tornadoes–to the west.
