Almost one year and countless episodes of teeth gnashing later, my home renovations at 509 are nearing an end. There's still a few pictures to hang and some curtains to hem (I've taken up sewing, btw...lol), but I suppose every home is a continuous work in progress.

At the beginning of our renovations, I had tons of ideas and no clue how to execute them. That's where my builders Brian, Benessa and Brooke Morrison. Somehow they managed to interpret my crazy ramblings and bring my visions to life. They remained committed to seeing the project to the end despite 509's chicanery which I'll share more about in the future.

As our work here comes to a close, I'm proud to call them each a friend whose dedication I will forever be grateful for. Thank you Brian, Benessa and Brooke. You are due all of the success you hope to achieve with your new business.

We tackled one room at a time with only a general idea of the direction we wanted to go. Slowly, certain themes emerged we began to suspect that 509 would tell an impressive story. There's cohesion throughout the house, yet each room is it's own experience, one I hope you will enjoy.

This room was the last of the renovations and ironically, the room I spent the least amount of time thinking about. It's also the only room with original paint from before the makeover.  By the time we reached the last leg of remodeling, I found myself standing in the center of the room feeling underwhelmed. The other rooms breathed life and personality, but the den was the wallflower and my original plan to just freshen up the paint wouldn't do much to change that. We went back to the drawing board.

How the idea of painting one wall black ever occurred to me, I can't actually say. I'm sure I was inspired by something I came across in the hours I spent pouring over pictures and blogs. The trees are one of my proudest risks. Not only did they come from my own yard, but I spent hours cutting branches, sanding the trunks and applying 15 cans of white spray paint.

I hope you enjoy my transformation pictures. If it isn't obvious yet, I'm very proud of the finished product, the process, and the people who helped make it happen!
