The late British actor Michael Rennie is best remembered as the dignified alien Klaatu in Robert Wise's The Day The Earth Stood Still.

Rennie had played in several small roles in numerous movies when he joined Royal Air Force and was sent to the United States for flight training. He ended up at Napier Field in Dothan and when he told his fellow pilots in South Alabama he was a movie actor, they burst into laughter.

However, the actor had the last laugh when Rennie and his new friends took in a British war movie a few nights later that starred John Clements, Leslie Banks and in a small role as Lieutenant Maxwell, was none other than Michael Rennie.
