Happy #GivingTuesday Tuscaloosa

Tuesday, November 29th is known as Giving Tuesday. Or as you more commonly see it, #GivingTuesday. The hash tag is in reference to its connection with social media.

Giving Tuesday is also known as the giving season’s opening day. According to their website at givingtuesday.org, “Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.”

The movement was created by the team at the Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y, a cultural center in New York City that has been bringing people together around the values of service and giving back since 1874.

They encourage you to be a “Social Ambassador” and hit the social networks like Twitter and Facebook to spread the word about organizations in your area.Some that are participating in Tuscaloosa include: Turning Point Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services, Tuscaloosa Youth For Christ and the Literacy Council of West Alabama.
