I've known for sometime that our rescue pup Duke has a problem with coveting items that don't belong to him.

For weeks now I've discovered evidence of his thievery as more unfamiliar toys, bones, balls and sticks continued to multiply. But now I'm afraid some type of intervention may be needed.

This morning I received a call from my neighbor, Coralina. She was a little frantic as she relayed that Duke had gotten out (again) and absconded with a little girl's house shoes. She told me the child was wandering the streets barefoot, in the cold, attempting without much success to bribe her shoes from him.

As I passed through the den on my way outside to wrangle Duke, I discovered these resting on a new pile of sticks:

Thankfully, all ended well. I was able to reunite the little girl with her furry frog slippers and bribe Duke back over the fence with a questionable meat treat.
