After posting its highest score of the season on the road last week, the No. 4 ranked Alabama gymnastics team is ready to return to Coleman Coliseum to take on No. 25 Kentucky Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Crimson Tide’s 12th annual Power of Pink meet.

“We’re very excited for our 12th Power of Pink meet,” UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. “This is part of Alabama gymnastics proud legacy in the community and it’s an opportunity for our ladies to compete for something bigger than themselves.”

The Power of Pink initiative was started by legendary Alabama gymnastics coach Sarah Patterson to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer in 2004. It has since spread nationwide in a variety of sports.

“As gymnasts, we choose our battles,” Duckworth said. “Those who are battling breast cancer don’t and we want to recognize their struggle, their courage and their incredible heart. The Power of Pink is about recognizing everyday heroes, showing our support and helping raise awareness in this vital fight.”

In addition to competing in pink leotards, Alabama will put aside its normal introductions on Friday as each Alabama gymnast will come into the spotlight with a breast cancer survivor and the duo will be introduced in tandem. Coleman Coliseum, along with other University of Alabama and Tuscaloosa area landmarks, has been lit in pink to celebrate the Power of Pink.

The Crimson Tide comes into this weekend after scoring a 197.525 at No. 1 Florida last week. The Tide’s Gainesville tally is the second-best road score in the nation this season and the fourth-best score overall. Alabama also posted the highest balance beam tally of the season with a 49.550, which ties the Tide’s fifth-best score in school history.

“We’re coming off a great meet where we really finished strong,” Duckworth said. “This week we’re looking for another strong performance in front of the best fans in the country.”

The first routine will get underway at 7:30 p.m., which means introductions will start at 7:10 p.m. and fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 7 p.m. Fans are reminded to allow extra time for bag checks when entering the coliseum.

Tickets are available online at RollTide.com or through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum.
