Carrie Underwood is one of the most beautiful women in the world, but she admits she wasn't always so sophisticated and flawless. In recent interviews, the country superstar admits she used to be awkward and prone to fashion faux pas.

While Underwood embodies beauty on the inside and out, the country singer admits that -- like all of us -- she has had some beauty disasters over the years. She confesses to having had bad teeth as a kid and wore braces more than once, including at several red carpets. She also had freckles that she hated and some very bad hair days, she admits to People.

Underwood also says that she had a perm when she was 14, and "gooped up" her bangs with hair gel as a kid.

"Worst hair moment ever would probably be me in the sixth grade, where I decided that my bangs should have a crazy amount of gel. The rest of my hair didn't," she says.

Underwood adds that her mom tried to tell her, but she just didn't listen. "Listen to your mom, everybody," she urges. "Listen to your mom! She knows what's going on."

Underwood tells Refinery 29 that one of her first jobs was at a gas station (she hasn't gone back since), and she only drinks water, coffee and red wine. Additionally, Underwood can bench press close to 100 pounds!

In the spirit of International Women's Day, Underwood has a message for women everywhere: You are beautiful.

"The one thing I am dying to tell you, all you gorgeous ladies out there, is that you are beautiful and strong and amazing," she tells People.

She mirrored that outlook in the revealing 29-question interview with Refinery 29.

"Support other women, tell somebody that they're beautiful," she adds.
