There’s a lot of great new stuff coming to Netflix Instant next month, but just as we prepare to load up our queues with the latest additions, so must we prepare to say goodbye to a handful of expiring titles. Now would be a good time to stop procrastinating and stop watching before these movies and TV shows disappear — possibly for a long, long time. Read on for our complete guide to everything that’s expiring from Netflix Instant in August.
‘Snowden’ Trailer: Watch the Government Watch Joseph Gordon-Levitt Watch You
In some ways, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a higher-end version of James Franco but occasionally you have to wonder if we’ve allowed him to take himself a little too seriously. Take the latest trailer for Oliver Stone’s Snowden, for instance, which A.) Reminds you that this is a movie that is still coming out soon, and B.) Features one of the most baffling prestige-acting accents in recent memory.
‘Moana’ International Trailer Reveals a Magical Baby Moana
Perhaps understandably so, the first trailer for Disney’s Moana was a bit more preoccupied with Maui, the jovial demigod character voiced by Dwayne Johnson. What can we say? The Rock is an instant selling point, even when we’re only hearing his voice. But the international trailer puts the spotlight on the titular hero, seen here in the opening scene as a cute little toddler who discovers that she has a rather magical connection to the ocean.
Live-Action ‘Pokemon’ Movie in the Works, Just in Case ‘Pokemon GO’ Isn’t Real Enough For You
You may be thinking, “But there’s already a live-action Pokemon. It’s called Pokemon GO and it makes me take my dog on extra walks!” Yes, yes, but just in case your personal, semi-live-action experience with the latest app craze isn’t enough, those long-developing plans for a new Pokemon movie have gotten a little more developed as Legendary is making a push to secure rights to the hit game franchise.
‘Tallulah’ Trailer: Ellen Page Steals a Baby, But It’s For a Good Reason…Kind Of
Tallulah is like the bleak, bizarro version of Juno: It stars Ellen Page and Allison Janney, but instead of giving a baby away, Page steals one from an ill-equipped mom and tries to pass it off as her own. The new drama received mostly positive reviews at Sundance, and before it debuts on Netflix next month, you can watch the first trailer to see what all the fuss is about.
Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Is No Match For ‘Finding Dory’
It took 20 years for Roland Emmerich to deliver a sequel to Independence Day, a film that’s largely responsible for the modern summer blockbuster season. Unfortunately, it looks like most audiences didn’t think it was worth the wait. As predicted in recent weeks, Resurgence crash-landed in theaters with an underwhelming opening weekend that was no match for Pixar’s Finding Dory.
‘Cars 3’ Will Be an ‘Emotional Story’ With New Competition For Lightning McQueen
Finding Dory hits theaters next week, but Pixar has already been hard at work planning another major sequel — and though it might not be one you’re too thrilled about, it’s definitely going to make plenty of fans happy. Cars 3 will hit theaters next summer, and we have some new plot details and a couple of pieces of concept art to get you all revved up for Pixar’s next animated adventure.
Jennifer Lawrence to Play Another Innovative Business Woman, This Time For Adam McKay
This might help explain why Jennifer Lawrence is a little too busy to join that female-fronted Ocean’s Eleven spinoff / reboot: The actress has signed on to star in an untitled project for Adam McKay, which — like Joy — casts Lawrence as an ambitious and innovative business woman, but this time she won’t have such a happy ending.
Set Sail With the First ‘Moana’ Poster, Disney to Debut Teaser Trailer on Sunday
Somehow — in between working out, reading scripts, and filming Fast 8 and Jumanji — Dwayne Johnson finds time to share updates and sneak peeks from his upcoming films with his sizable fan base. Today’s Rock-sclusive is the first official poster for Disney’s Moana, the animated musical adventure featuring the voices of Johnson (obviously) and newcomer Auli’i Cravalho. And in case you were wondering when we might see the first teaser, Johnson’s got you covered there, too.
Watch Brie Larson’s Adorable ‘Captain Marvel’ Confusion in This 2015 Interview
Brie Larson is reportedly the frontrunner to play Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel, the studio’s first solo female superhero movie — which is kind of a big deal for a lot of fans. The Oscar-winning star of Room is a great choice for the part, but back in 2015, she had no idea who Captain Marvel was. That’s probably changed quite a bit since this interview took place, but it’s still pretty delightful to see her reaction nonetheless.
