The newest episode of the PBS animated series 'Blank on Blank' features an interview that author and music critic Barney Hoskyns did with Johnny Cash back in 1996.

In the series 'Blank on Blank,' creators take audio from interviews and creatively animate a short film featuring the subject of each interview.

As they describe it,

We help journalists dust off their prized tapes, minidiscs, and digital recordings. Those saved interviews with iconic figures gathered to write articles, books, to make radio, that few people ever got to hear. Until now.

Past subjects of this colorful remake have been Carol Burnett, Farrah Fawcett, Ray Charles, Janis Joplin, Fidel Castro, Grace Kelly, and Heath Ledger among others.

Over the course of the six minute Johnny Cash interview, the singer opens up about pain, touring, playing live, gospel music, dressing in black, and being an American icon.
