After receiving a consumer complaint, the FDA acquired and analyzed samples of Viva Duck for Dogs (Chunked) Lot 22853, detecting the presence of Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

According to the Viva Recall Notice, “Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.”

Three duck-based recipes from Lot 22853 are affected by this recall.

The product is distributed by Viva as frozen 1 lb. bricks in clear vacuum packaging during the timeframe of October 24, 2023 and December 6, 2023,

Possible Symptoms

“Pets with Salmonella and Listeria infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain,” said the Viva Recall Notice.

Pets that are infected but show no other signs of illness can carry the infection and transmit it to other animals or humans. If your pet has ingested the recalled product and exhibits these symptoms, kindly contact your veterinarian for assistance.
