It's July 7th, and you know what that means: it's 7-Eleven Day.

The iconic gas station has been in operation for almost 100 years.

According to Britannica, 7-Eleven traces its origin to the Southland Ice Company

Now it's best known for the icy drink, the Slurpee. And today they're giving the small ones away for FREE.

But if you're like Alabama and don't have any locations in your state, you're plumb out of luck.

And why aren't there any here?

Christopher Harress of Al.com tried to figure out a few years ago, but wasn't able to find anything super definite.

The leading theory seems to be that 7-Eleven and Circle K used to be owned by the same company. But Circle K's website notes it's been owned by a separate Canadian company since 2003.

So maybe it's just tradition at this point?

Regardless, if you're looking to get your 7-Eleven fix, the closest one to Tuscaloosa is in Chickamauga, Georgia.

That's an astounding 200 MILES away though. How many Slurpees would you have to get to make the trip break even?

  • Small Slurpee: $1
  • Average gas price in Tuscaloosa: $3
  • Average sedan miles/gallon: 31

That means you'll need to buy about 39 Slurpees to make up for the trek.

Hope you're hungry!
