As new work requirements go into effect, thousands of Alabamians receiving food stamps will be cut off from benefits.

32,672 Alabamians face losing food stamps according to Al.com. The Alabama Department of Human Resources notified recipients of the possible loss of benefits in December and subsequent months, but the total number of the state's residents removed from the SNAP rolls won't be revealed until next month.

Beginning January 1, able-bodied unemployed adults ages 18-49 who aren't disabled or raising minor children will be required to work at minimum part-time to maintain their benefits.

The change limits recipients to three-months of benefits within a 3-year time unless they are working or participating in a training program for at least 20 hours a week.

Able-bodied adults receiving food stamps as of January 1, will lose some benefits beginning this month.
