The City of Tuscaloosa is giving residents more time to pay their utility bills as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

On March 13, Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox issued an executive order to extend the non-payment grace period for city utilities.

Given the potential for the spread of COVID-19 and the implications to health and sanitation for citizens to be without working water, sewer, or garbage collection, the Mayor has ordered applicable city departments to extend the current grace period allotted for nonpayment of water, sewer, and solid waste collection charges by an additional 60 days.

“The health and wellbeing of Tuscaloosa residents is the City’s number one priority,” Mayor Maddox explains. “Access to clean water for hand-washing is paramount in the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses, and no one should find themselves unable to wash their hands because of an inability to pay.”
