On a hot and humid homecoming in Reform, Ala., the Pickens County Tornadoes(7-1, 6-0) beat the Meek Tigers(5-3, 4-2) 22-6 to win the 1A-Region 6 division and seal the number one seed for the playoffs.
The Aliceville Yellowjackets (4-2, 2-1) went on the road to Pickens County (4-1, 3-0) to take on the Tornadoes in a rivalry game. The Yellowjackets overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to win 39-22 and give Pickens County its first loss of the season. The victory ties the all-time series between the two schools at 41-41-1.
The Linden Patriots (15-0) defeated the Pickens County Tornadoes (11-4) for the second time this season to win the AHSAA Class 1A State Championship. Junior quarterback and safety Javion Belle led the Pickens County Tornadoes (10-3) past the Hubbertville Lions (9-3) 40-24 in the round three of the AHSAA Class 1A playoffs. Belle seized the momentum for good for the Tornadoes by cashing in a 35-yard pick-six to close the half and send Pickens County into the locker room with a 20-12 halftime lead.
The Pickens County Tornadoes (8-3, 6-1) bounced back from last week's defeat to rival Gordo by defeating the Woodville Panthers (5-6, 4-2) in the first round of the AHSAA Class 1A Playoffs 33-8.
Now that the regular season has concluded, excitement is buzzing in the Druid City in preparation for the Super 7 State Championships that will take place at the beginning of December in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
