With a diploma and associates degree already in hand, 16-year-old Tuscaloosa native LeAnna Roberts is preparing to walk across the stage and receive her bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama next weekend.
Today was supposed to be a special day for the Alabama spring graduating class of 2020. Students who finished their schoolwork were likely looking forward to walking across the stage in Coleman Coliseum in front of family and friends, celebrating their academic journey. Graduation around the country and in Tuscaloosa was cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Alabama football team celebrates its 15 graduates virtually this year, and the students will have the option to walk across the stage at the next graduation ceremony.
Parents took to Facebook to express their outrage at Tuscaloosa County High School officials decisions to host graduation ceremony despite storms being forecast all week.
