In 1838, over 17,000 Cherokee men, women, and children were removed from their homes and forced to walk 1,000 miles to Oklahoma. Every year, thousands of bikers commemorate the pain suffered by these people through the Trail of Tears Motorcycle Ride.

Founded by a Scottsboro native named Jerry Davis, the ride tracks a portion of the original Trail of Tears from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Waterloo, Alabama. In 1994, the first journey began with only eight riders and ended with one hundred. By 2004, word spread and more than 100,000 bikers showed up, making it the world's largest organized motorcycle ride.

The Trail of Tears Motorcycle Ride will celebrate its 21st year on September 19, 2015. According to the official website, there are no fees or registration required to participate.
