Several thousand high school students will meet Tuscaloosa-area employers this week at the eighth annual Worlds of Work career expo at Shelton State Community College.

The event is organized annually by West AlabamaWorks! and the college, and this year more than 4,000 freshmen students will visit during the two-day WOW fair this Wednesday and Thursday.

The massive-scale expo will take over the campus both days and bring more than 100 employers across 11 "Worlds" of work to recruit future talent to their workforces. Students from 35 schools participated in 2023.

The industries include Agriculture, Construction, Cosmetology, Education, Energy & Utilities, Engineering & Environmental, Healthcare, Hospitality & Tourism, Manufacturing & Automotive, Public Safety and Transportation.

The region's largest employers will be present - Mercedes-Benz, BFGoodrich, Phifer Inc., the cities of Tuscaloosa and Northport, the DCH Health System and countless others.

Meanwhile, older students in 10th - 12th grade are invited to attend WOW Varsity, a separate free event this Wednesday from 2 to 5:30 p.m. that will introduce them to industry leaders representing nearly a dozen separate career pathways to explore.
