Tuscaloosa Man Accused of Firing Shots at Pregnant Wife in Moundville
A Tuscaloosa man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted and fired shots at his pregnant wife earlier this week.
According to court documents obtained by the Tuscaloosa Thread, 22-year-old Devin Jerrell Smith was riding in a car on Lagrone Road in Moundville Sunday with his wife, who is reportedly 9 months pregnant, and two other people.
The couple allegedly began to argue, and police say Smith punched his pregnant wife in the face several times before he pulled out a handgun and started making threats.
The other two people in the vehicle reportedly bailed out, and the alleged victim exited a passenger seat and got behind the wheel.
Investigators say Smith also got out of the car and pointed the gun at the vehicle -- as the woman tried to drive away, Smith allegedly fired two shots that struck the car she was driving.
He then fled the scene on foot, police say.
Smith, who is 22, was arrested Tuesday and charged with third-degree domestic violence assault and menacing, which are both Class A misdemeanors, and firing into an occupied building, which is a felony.
He was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where his combined bond is set at $42,000.
