Tuscaloosa City Schools, along with Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa, Legal Services of Alabama and Child Abuse Prevention Services, will highlight and recognize Rising Star Character Students of the Month from each school in the district during the 2022-2023 school year. Each month, two to three outstanding TCS students will be highlighted in this series.

Penelope Besnoy, an eighth-grader at Tuscaloosa Magnet School- Middle, is the first recipient of the Rising Star Character Student of the Month for the month of February.

Besnoy was honored with the award on Friday during the morning assembly in front of the entire eighth grade class with her parents also present nearby.

Besnoy said she was really excited to be honored with the award.

"It feels really cool to be chosen," Besnoy said.

Besnoy said she demonstrates good character by staying out of trouble and through staying involved in extra-curricular activities, such as participating in a passion project at TMSM and running track and field at Northridge Middle School.

"It shows other people what you are supposed to do and gives a good example of what you're supposed to do in school settings and outside of school too," Besnoy said.
