Agents with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force arrested a Northport for allegedly receiving 17 pounds of marijuana in the mail last week.

According to a deposition obtained by the Thread, the incident occurred Wednesday. The court document said agents were conducting a controlled delivery of 11 pounds of marijuana going to an address in the 15000 block of Bay Shore Drive in Northport.

The document said while conducting an investigation of a 6 pound package being delivered to a different address, the suspect, 30-year-old Rohan John Kennedy, was identified after he was taken into custody at the different address.

The document said agents asked Kennedy where he lived and the suspect said he resided at the residence that was listed on the 11-pound package, which had the name "Rasheed Kennedy" listed. The suspect said that person was his brother who lives in Jamaica and could not give an exact time frame of when he would be returning to visit the states.

Kennedy's wife arrived to the scene and after being read her Miranda Rights, told agents she was not expecting a package to be delivered and they, along with her children, were the only people who lived at the home.

The document said the packages were both packaged and shipped shipped from a person in California.

Kennedy was charged with trafficking and failure to affix a tax stamp, which is required by state law. He was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail where he remains on $1,015,000 bond.
