Lockdown Over Rumor About Gun at Brookwood High School Lifted After Police Sweep
A lockdown at Brookwood High School has been lifted Wednesday and there is no threat to students or the public, police sources have confirmed.
Deputy Jessica McDaniel and Sergeant Josh Hastings at the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office said deputies were dispatched to the high school for a weapons search Wednesday afternoon.
Hastings said the incident stemmed from an overheard comment that led some in the school to believe that a firearm was on the campus.
The high school was placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution while a sweep was conducted, and Hastings said it was lifted after deputies cleared the area without finding any weapons.
As of 1:30 p.m., the lockdown has been lifted and normal operations are resuming.
