Tuscaloosa Water is giving the community a chance to show off one of the city’s most important resources and win in the process.

In recognition of Drinking Water Week, happening May 3 through May 9, Tuscaloosa Water has launched the Lake Tuscaloosa Photo Contest, inviting residents to capture and share their best shots of Lake Tuscaloosa.

The lake isn’t just a scenic spot. It serves as the primary source of drinking water for the city, helping supply more than 62,000 homes and businesses with over 8 billion gallons of clean, safe water each year, according to the press release.

“Lake Tuscaloosa isn’t just a beautiful place to visit. It is the foundation of our community’s water supply,” said Kimberly Michael, Executive Director of Water and Sewer, according to the press release.

She added that the contest is meant to help residents better understand the work that goes into delivering safe, reliable water every day.

Tuscaloosa Water says its system delivers that water with zero detected PFAS, often referred to as “forever chemicals,” while continuing to invest in infrastructure and treatment processes.

Entering the contest is simple. Participants just need to post an original photo of Lake Tuscaloosa on Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #TuscaloosaWater.

The contest runs through May 8 at noon, with the winner announced later that evening. The prize includes two ticket vouchers to a concert at the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater.

Drinking Water Week is a national effort led by the American Water Works Association to highlight the importance of safe drinking water and the people behind it.
