Alabama, Did Vincent Gambino Baker Email You? It’s a Scam
It seems that no matter the time of year, scams are alive and well. I've recently been made aware of a scam attempt using email that everyone should avoid.
Have you ever received an email from someone who identifies themselves as Vincent Gambino Baker?
This week I received an email from this person who is identified as an attorney.
At first, I got nervous. My first thought was "What did I do and why am I appearing in court?!"
The email begins with "You have Notice to Appear in Court." The email continues informing me of my said court appearance.
Hereby you are notified that you have been scheduled to appear for your hearing at the county courthouse. Please bring all documents and witnesses relating to this case with you to Court on your hearing date.
To view a copy of the court notice click here. Please, read it thoroughly.
Note: If you do not attend the hearing the Judge may issue a warrant for failure to appear in Court.
Regards,
Vincent Gambino Baker, Attorney at Law
I should have known something was wrong because the email not only asked me to click a link that I had no prior knowledge about, but my name was spelled wrong in the body of the email.
This email is a phishing scam. That's why I did not click the link that was sent. If you get this email DO NOT CLICK THE LINK!
According to FTC Consumer Advice, phishing emails and text messages often tell a story to trick you into clicking on a link or opening an attachment. You might get an unexpected email or text message that looks like it’s from a company you know or trust, like a bank or a credit card or utility company. Or maybe it’s from an online payment website or app.
