Tuscaloosa’s One Place Lands 70K Alabama Power Foundation Grant
Tuscaloosa’s One Place was presented with a sizeable grant from the Alabama Power Foundation.
As the area’s family resource center, TOP has served over 20,000 individuals in West Alabama through its 20-plus programs each year. The $70,000 grant from the Alabama Power Foundation will support the organization’s re-entry program. The funds will be used to offer a workforce development initiative for clients who are looking to successfully return to their communities after a period of confinement.
Re-entry Program Includes
Individualized Workforce Plans
“Through the Alabama Power Foundation, we have long supported Tuscaloosa’s One Place and we know their work is greatly impacting the communities we serve,” said Alabama Power Western Division Vice President Mark Crews. “
This re-entry program is an effective way to impact workforce development in our area. It also allows us to work with a community partner to implement social justice initiatives that invest in people who are looking to reestablish themselves as a productive member of their community. We are grateful to be a part of TOP’s work.”
According to the press release, “program participants will have the opportunity to complete assessments that will identify an individualized plan for reaching employment goals and provide opportunities for structured training consistent with their career choices.”
Customized Program Opportunities
Soft Skills Training
“The work we do at Tuscaloosa’s One Place is aimed at addressing the critical needs of families in our community. By implementing our re-entry program, we are able to provide key resources and support convicted felons as they adjust to life outside of prison. Ultimately, our goal is to help those participants successfully reestablish themselves with their own families and community,” said Tuscaloosa’s One Place Executive Director Dr. Kevin Besnoy.
“We depend greatly on community partners, like the Alabama Power Foundation, to help us provide quality services to the families in West Alabama. By supporting this program, the Alabama Power Foundation has once again demonstrated its commitment to making a difference in the local community. We are very appreciative of the belief (or should it be faith) they have in Tuscaloosa's One Place and this innovative program”.
