NFL Mock Draft Has Alabama Claiming No. 1 Overall Pick
PFF released its latest mock draft midway through the 2025 college football season. Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson has drastically improved his draft stock through the first half of the season, completing 70.9% of his passes for 1,678 yards and 16 passing touchdowns. He's also added 58 yards and two rushing touchdowns on the ground.

PFF has loved Ty Simpson this season, grading him an 86.6 grade and nine big-time throws. He's second in the SEC in passing yards (Joey Aguilar has 1,680). Trevor Sikkema of PFF recently did a mock draft, where he had Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson going No. 1 overall to the New York Jets.
Sikkema's reasoning for Simpson going No. 1 overall:
"There isn’t a quarterback in the 2026 class who feels like a “safe” top-five talent – if there ever is such a thing. However, there are a handful of players who have shown promise in flashes or small sample sizes, and Simpson leads the way. In his first year as a full-time starter, he has the highest overall passing grade among the projected first-round quarterbacks (86.6) and the highest intermediate (11-19 yards downfield) passing grade (91.1)."
He also had Alabama left tackle Kadyn Proctor taken in the first round, drafted by the Cleveland Browns (via a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars) with the 21st pick in the 2026 NFL draft.
His reasoning for Proctor being taken No. 21 overall:
"Proctor has had a decent start to his 2025 campaign. The supersized 6-foot-7 offensive tackle has earned a 78.6 run-blocking grade with an 82.5 blocking grade on zone plays. He has struggled at times as a pass protector, especially with speed, given how big he is, so he might be a guard at the next level. However, if he is, he can be a very good one, given his unique strength-athleticism combination at his size."
There's still a long way to go until April 2026, when the NFL draft takes place, and Simpson and Proctor both have eligibility to return for the 2026 season. However, if things continue to trend in the direction they currently are, both could hear their names called on night one in the NFL draft.
