McDaniel Confirms Tagovailoa will Return in 2024
Tua Tagovailoa has suffered several concerning injuries in his football career, dating back to a dislocated hip against Mississippi State hen he was the starting quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2019.
Since entering the NFL, Tagovailoa has suffered three confirmed concussions, with fans and media calling into question his ability to return to the playing field. Despite the questions, according to Miami Dolphins' head coach Mike McDaniel, Tagovailoa is slated to return in 2024 from his third concussion.
Tagovailoa left the Dolphins' second game of the season against the Buffalo Bills after colliding with Bills' safety Damar Hamlin on a quarterback run. Tagovailoa suffered a concussion on the play.
When asked for more details, McDaniel told reporters that Tagovailoa is still gathering information and, "The process continues."
Tagovailoa was placed on injured reserve (IR) following the loss to the Bills. He's eligible to return to action on October 23, when the Dolphins take on the Arizona Cardinals. It's currently unknown if that is when Tagovailoa will return, or if the Dolphins will wait until a later date to bring back their star quarterback.
When healthy, Tagovailoa is a top quarterback in the NFL, passing for 4,624 yards and 29 touchdowns in 17 games in 2023. This offseason, he signed a four-year, $212.4 million contract extension, making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in NFL history.
