Greg Byrne Disappointed in Message Sent by Committee
The College Football Playoffs are getting ready to begin, and many are debating the decision by the playoff committee to leave the Alabama Crimson Tide out of the playoffs this year.
Greg Byrne, the athletic director for the University of Alabama took to X about his feelings toward the outcome for the Crimson Tide.
In the post, he started with:
"Disappointed with the outcome and felt we were one of the 12 best teams in the country. We had an extremely challenging schedule and recognized there were two games in particular that we did not perform as well as we should have."
Byrne went on to say that they "will need to assess how many P4 non-conference games make sense in the future to put us in the best position to participate in the CFP"
Many others have displeasure in the comments of his post pointing out that all of Alabama's losses are from SEC teams as well as the fact that they beat Georgia, who won the SEC championship against first-year SEC team, Texas. Other commenters point out the 24-3 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners as a good reason that the Crimson Tide should not be considered a playoff team.
Alabama has one more game this year against the Michigan Wolverines, these teams will travel to Tampa, Florida for the ReliaQuest Bowl held in Raymond James Stadium to wrap up their 2024 season. They will play on New Year's Eve, Tuesday, Dec.31, at noon EST on ESPN.
