The head coach told his players that he was "excited coming into the game about their preparation," Kelly said at the beginning of his press conference. He also said that his players "were ready to play tonight" even though they lost to the Crimson Tide by 29 points. According to the head coach of LSU, he failed to get his team in the "right positions tonight" and accepted full responsibility.

Despite losing by 29 points to the Crimson Tide, Kelly said his team "were ready to play tonight" as he began his news conference by saying the head coach informed them he was "excited coming into the game about their preparation." Kelly accepted full responsibility, claiming that he failed to place his players in the "right positions tonight."

Kelly said his team "needed to get off the field" because the Tigers' defense allowed the Tide's offense to convert 10–13 on third downs and gave up six touchdowns on Alabama's nine offensive drives during the game. They also gave up 420 yards, 311 of which came on the ground, with Milroe having a fantastic night on the ground, rushing for 185 yards and four touchdowns.

In response to a question on how he and the squad feel about losing to the playoffs, LSU's head coach said that his players are sad that they didn't "perform up to LSU's Standards". The Crimson Tide were only a 2.5-point favorite going into this game, which shows how poorly the Tigers fared.

Kelly mentioned that the coach's future worries will be on "how to put our kids in a better position to succeed." This is especially true for the Tigers offense, which didn't play well tonight—LSU didn't score a touchdown until the game's last drive.
