Jones was an offensive lineman from 2009-2012 at the University of Alabama. He was a starter for all four seasons he was at the Capstone and an instrumental part in three national championship seasons for Alabama.

Jones started 50 career games across three positions (tackle, guard, center) earning three All-American honors, being named to the first team in his final two seasons at Alabama. Jones also won the Outland Trophy in 2011, presented annually to the best interior lineman in the country.

He was also the only four-time academic All-American in the University of Alabama football history, finishing with a 4.0 GPA during his tenure.

In an interview with Ryan Fowler following the announcement, Jones said Greg Byrne called him to notify him of the selection to the 2024 SEC Legends class. Jones joked on the call, saying, "You gotta play it cool a little bit, you know, kinda wait till the third or fourth ring. You don't want to just answer right away and act like you're eager."

"It was very nice of him to call, and I was very honored. I'm excited."
