Alabama Tight End Enters Transfer Portal
The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, December 9, and the Crimson Tide has already seen some movement in the portal from pass catchers.
Three wide receivers already entered the transfer portal, and now, a tight end will join them in Danny Lewis Jr.
Pete Nakos of On3 Sports was the first to report Lewis's transfer intent.
Lewis, a 6-foot-5, 257-pound tight end from New Iberia, Louisiana, just wrapped up his redshirt sophomore season with the Crimson Tide.
He has appeared in 31 games at Alabama with one career start. Lewis has one career catch at Alabama, totaling five yards on the reception. He also returned one kickoff for 14 yards.
Lewis was projected to compete for starting playing time in 2025, as Alabama is losing CJ Dippre and Robbie Outz due to both players no longer having collegiate eligibility.
Lewis was rated as a three-star tight end prospect from Westgate High School in Louisiana, holding offers from LSU, Florida, and Alabama, among others.
Lewis originally committed to the Cincinnati Bearcats in September 2021 before de-committing in January 2022. After official visits to LSU, Florida, and Alabama in January 2022, Lewis committed to the Crimson Tide in the same month.
Alabama's tight end depth is not hurting too much, with the Crimson Tide expected to retain Washington transfer Josh Cuevas, signing four-star prospect Kaleb Edwards, and signing four-star tight end Marshall Pritchett.
