Alabama Learns Bowl Game Destiny
Tuscaloosa, AL - The Alabama Crimson Tide fell just outside the College Football Playoff, being named the first team out by the playoff committee in favor of the SMU Mustangs.
With the lack of a playoff berth, Alabama will now play in a bowl game with a chance to achieve 10 wins for the 17th straight year, dating back to Nick Saban's first year in 2007.
Several Bowl Games have SEC buy-ins, but the Crimson Tide can only play in one.
According to Brett McMurphy of Action Network, Alabama will play Michigan in the Reliaquest Bowl in Tampa, Florida on December 31.
It is a rematch of last season's College Football Playoff Semifinal in the Rose Bowl. Michigan went on to win the College Football Playoff National Championship.
It is the third time in five years Alabama has met Michigan in the postseason, with the Crimson Tide defeating the Wolverines 35-16 in the Citrus Bowl in January 2020.
Last season, Michigan defeated Alabama 27-20 in overtime in the Rose Bowl.
This game is a get-back for both Kalen DeBoer and Alabama, with both teams losing to Michigan en route to the Wolverines' undefeated national championship run last season. Alabama lost in the College Football Playoff semifinal, while Kalen DeBoer and Washington lost on the College Football Playoff National Championship.
