Alabama Basketball Stays Put in AP and Coaches Poll at No. 2
The Crimson Tide holds steady at No. 2 in both the AP Poll and Coaches Poll for the second consecutive week.
This ranking follows Alabama’s victories last week over UNC Asheville (110-54) and Arkansas State (88-79).
Against UNC Asheville, Alabama’s 56-point margin of victory marked the largest season opener win in Coach Oats’s tenure, surpassing last year’s 32-point victory over Morehead State. Mark Sears led the team with 20 points, his 50th career game scoring 20 or more. Six players scored in double figures, including Clifford Omoruyi (16), Latrell Wrightsell Jr. (13), Mouhamed Dioubate (11), Aden Holloway (11), and Labaron Philon (10).
In the Arkansas State matchup, Sears again led with 19 points, including 11 from the free-throw line. Alabama dominated the offensive boards, grabbing 14 rebounds and converting them into 21 second-chance points. Omoruyi was close to a double-double, tallying nine rebounds and 12 points in just 17 minutes of play.
Alabama trails only the Kansas Jayhawks at No. 1. The rest of the top five includes UConn at No. 3, Gonzaga at No. 4, and Auburn at No. 5.
Alabama is currently the highest-ranked SEC team in the AP Poll, followed by No. 5 Auburn, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 18 Arkansas, No. 19 Kentucky, No. 20 Florida, and No. 25 Ole Miss.
