After You Gossip About Me, Pray For Me

My good friend posted a statement on Facebook over the weekend and struck home with me.  It said something like this, “After Gossiping about me, please pray for me, I want to be perfect like you.”  I even shared it on my Facebook pages.  I don’t know why but it really resonated with me because I believe that everyone falls victim to gossip by being the person gossiped about or doing the gossiping.  As a young girl, when I told my Dad the middle school kids would whisper about me, he said that “I should consider myself in good company because they talked about Jesus Christ.” – Marinate on that.

According to Poured Out This love, a “gossiper is a person who has privileged information about people and proceeds to reveal that information to those who have no business knowing it.”  Have you ever been in this position?  I had to think; I know that I have been gossiped about both personally and professionally.  But, have I ever been the gossiper?  According to Going by Faith, there are eight types of gossip, “slander, dishing, rumors, backbiting, not-really-joking jokes, planting seeds, whispered innuendo, and got-this-all-wrong gossip.”  It was a super interesting read because I think, at times, “venting” could go down the road of gossip too.  And I have vented plenty in my life.

Nevertheless, I still think what my friend posted is true, “After Gossiping about me, please pray for me, I want to be perfect like you.”  But then my mother would always say, “give them something to gossip about it.”  [insert girlish laughter] because I know lemons make lemonade! - @MaryKRadio
