Over a month after my decision to quit smoking, I've finally settled in to a new normal that means my life isn't centered around my next smoke break. I find myself going longer between urges and the cravings aren't as intense. I also find myself with more time.

Physically, I still can't say I notice a big change in the way I feel but last week I discovered a difference in the way I look. Since August, I've been diligently working out with a personal trainer. In addition to living a healthier lifestyle, I wanted to gain weight but despite Josh's and my best efforts, I couldn't seem to make consistent gains.

Josh was the first to notice the difference in the overall appearance of my arms last week. He's a great motivator so I assumed he was attempting to encourage me, but I had to admit even I could tell there was a significant difference. My muscles were no longer being robbed of oxygen and the time I'm investing in working out is actually paying off.

I pulled up my QuitIt app last night and was blown away by the realization that I haven't smoked over 1000 cigarettes since I quit. If it takes 7:00 to smoke the average cigarette then I've gained five hours over the past month.

Pretty remarkable and pretty encouraging to keep going.
