Woman’s Hearing Restored in Time for Proposal from Her Boyfriend

Andrea Diaz, a patient of University of Mississippi Medical Center, recently received a request from her boyfriend just minutes after having her hearing restored.

The FDA describes a cochlear implant as,

an implanted electronic hearing device, designed to produce useful hearing sensations to a person with severe to profound nerve deafness by electrically stimulating nerves inside the inner ear.

Diaz recently received a cochlear implant and as expected, became very emotional when the device was activated.

Not only was she able to hear her doctor and mother speak but also her boyfriend, Kevin Peakman. Within minutes of getting her hearing, Peakman decided to change her world even more. 

As he bent down on one knee, he said "I wanted the first thing you hear is me asking you to marry me."
